A Note From Deanne
Growing up surrounded by a large extended family, holidays have always been about family for me. More than the toys (don’t get me wrong — the toys were great too!), I loved the hustle and bustle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents sharing the holiday together. As the holidays approach, millions of people will pack their bags and fly home to celebrate with their loved ones. What might not be apparent on the surface is that a large percentage of these millions has a fear of flying, and there are millions more who don’t fly at all due to fear.
This week's issue addresses how to increase your sense of control on flights by preparing your five senses with the facts of what to expect during the flight. Understanding the facts is one key way to change your perception of flying from one of helplessness to one of empowerment. Enjoy. Dedicated to your success,

Preparing your Five Senses for Flying
Research shows that knowing what to expect when facing a new situation increases your sense of control and decreases anxiety. If you plan to fly soon start increasing your sense of control now by learning what to expect during the flight.
Many of us are familiar with a few basic safety facts about flying. We may know that statistically flying is safer than driving a car. However, that doesn’t make an iota of difference when we hear the plane engines churning. That’s because we haven’t prepared our five senses with the facts.
To help deflate the fear, educate yourself on a five senses level of what to expect on the flight. Go online and learn how take-off works and how it will feel physically, what equipment noises you will typically hear, and so on. There is a free online course I highly recommend, written by a pilot, which covers many of these flying specifics and fears, available at: http://www.fearofflyinghelp.com/
Check it out. It shows you what to expect, discusses many of the safety components of flying, and helps to defuse the fear of the unknown on a five senses level by showing you what will happen and why.
